Minutes from Jake's Meeting with Deb on October 10, 2007 - 1pm
I met with Deb in her office at CJ today. Here's what we discussed.
PROGRESS!? - Interim Lease:
Deb handed me her first draft of an interim lease for FR. It's only in paper form as of right now, I'll try to type it up (it's only a page) and have it on a wiki page for comments before Sunday's meeting. I am going to correspond with her next week about it regardless of whether we're done commenting yet or not, just to keep the process rolling as quickly as possible. EDIT: It's now on the wiki for comments here.
FR's Rent:
Will likely go up when they present us with a real lease. They're getting "more sophisticated" about managing their building, and need to add operational costs such as insurance, maintenence and other etc.'s to the cost. To be discussed in more detial when that document is prepared.
The Pillow Project...
...is a dance company that is renting the upstairs gallery space from CJ. besides FR, they're CJ's only other subleter (is that a word?) right no. They will also from time to time (like this week for example) be using the space beside FR for performances and other events.
The Space beside/around FR:
CJ is trying to make that more of a venue. They'll keep using it as a warehouse/donation intake point as well, but they want to have more events there as a fundraising avenue for CJ. FR should have access to table/participate in things that go on there. They'll also be rennovating the office space that's there at some point as well.
Solar D:
Them house is done and gone to Washington DC for the competition. Afther that, it's going to be permanatly installed at Powdermill Nature Reserve. They're in cleanup mode now. The Solar Decathlon happens every 2 years, CMU will likely use that space again in 2009 for their next enrty in that contest.
Big Pour:
The "Big Pour" - that's what they're trying to officially call it now - was a smashing success. CJ made mad loot. They've already scheduled one for next year, it's on Sat., Sept. 13, 2008. It could also potentially be two days, starting on the Fri. 12t, they're not sure yet. She apologized for the fire truck being parked directly in front of our space, that won't happen next year.
FR Entrance lighting:
The little solar light that appeared there is likely from Solar D., dunno if they'll leave it or not but regardless, it doesn't seem to be working right now. She said we're welcome to grab a suitable heavy duty outdoor fixture from CJ and replace the one that's out there if we have a LISCENSED electrician, but that falls into the capital improvment category, so maybe it'll have to wait..? Also, it's not clear that it's just the fixture that's messed up.
Slop Sink:
I gave Deb our previously agreed upon $200 contribution for the slop sink install. She hasn't been able to get a full cost for the installation from Lou yet, she'll advise me when she has a specific number. Also, she wants FR to be responsible for maintaining the sink, including any problems things like drain backups may cause with the adjacent bathrooms. We should discuss this at the upcoming meeting.
Fire Hazard Stuff:
Deb expressed concern about our storage and use of oily rags in the shop. She wants to know how we store them and dispose of the so that there's no out of code fire hazards associated with them. That'll likely be part of any lease they give us. Also, she's somewhat concerned about the tires and tubes as a fire hazard, she understands that we dispose of the on a regular basis, so it's not a big deal I guess.
Capital improvments:
CJ will be starting a campaign to raise millions of dollars in the next 3 years or so to make massive improvements to the building and property. In some respects, she says they'll seek our input when time comes to modify the building and grrounds. I mentioned Lighting (see above) not only at our door but in the parking lot in general, she also wants to see this improved.
